Southend United announced the signing of Anton Ferdinand on a one-year contract in August 2016.
After a season in which he played over 35 games, he signed a two-year contract extension in the summer.
The Defender, 31, joined the Blues having spent the last two seasons at Sky Bet Championship side Reading.
The former England Under-21 International began his career at West Ham United, making 163 appearances for the Hammers before joining Sunderland for £8million in 2008.
Spells at Queens Park Rangers and in Turkey followed before signing for the Royals in August 2014.
Ferdinand has become a leader at the club, taking over the captain’s armband from Adam Barrett when he retired in February.
