Midfielder
Bio
Debut:
George Riches is a first-year midfielder or right wing-back.
Danny Heath: "George is a player that plays with a high level of commitment and energy. George demonstrates very good technical ability with his receiving and protecting the ball in tight areas to then create the space to pass, cross or shoot. George shows the ability to produce excellent crosses to create goal scoring opportunities for others by making good decisions to benefit the team in the final third of the pitch.
George: "I started playing football at the age of five for Forest Glade. My other previous clubs include Bowers & Pitsea, Heybridge Swifts, Concord Rangers and Brentwood Town. At an early age I broke my ankle and took some time to build back my confidence and rehabilitate. Earlier this year, I played in a tournament in Portsmouth for Southend United Community Foundation, and this is where I got recognized and asked to attend a trial. From there I was asked to trial for a further six weeks for the youth team where I am proud to say I was signed. At Southend United FC, the youth team squad is like a family! We play together as a unit and treat each other like brothers. I now have an amazing opportunity to follow my dream of trying to play professionally for the Southend United first team."
