Bio

Debut:

Chinedum Ohanweh is a first-year centre-back.

Danny Heath: "Chinedum is a great personality and character both on and off the pitch. Chinedum was spotted and scouted after we saw him play for Bowers & Pitsea and the Essex County team in the 2023/24 season. He is an excellent 1v1 defender that demonstrates the ability to win his 1v1 duels both in the air and on the ground with controlled aggression and excellent timing of his tackles and interceptions. Chinedum is also a part of the player leadership group of which he does and will continue to ensure that the team are maintaining high standards of professionalism both on and off the pitch.

Chinedum: "I started my career at Euro Dagenham which was a local club to me. I loved to play football on Sunday with my friends and had a blast. We also went a whole season unbeaten and went far in many cups such as the League Cup and Essex Cup. In this period, I also got scouted by Ipswich Town and went on a three-week trial but sadly got turned down. From there I went to Woodford Town and was there for a couple months. After having a bad season with them, I was slowly losing love for the sport, but around this time I was also playing for my county in Essex and started many games and had many fun moments with the other players. I then went to Bowers mid-season and was scoring lots of headers, helping the team win games and keep clean sheets. I then got picked up by Southend United from Bowers and Essex County and since I’ve been here, I’ve become a better player and become much fitter. I've also made many friends in the Club - we have now become a family and I’m loving football at the moment and how far I’ve come."
