Midfielder

Bio

Debut:

Alfie Humphrey is a first-year midfielder.

Danny Heath: "Alfie shows excellent tactical understanding to play in central midfield as well as centre-back. Alfie is an excellent passer of the ball that plays forwards with quality on his forward passes, and he has also added the ability to also produce shots on goal from outside the penalty area when the opportunity is there to do so. Out of possession Alfie is relentless with his pressing and controlled aggression to deny the opposition time and space. On the pitch Alfie is also an excellent communicator to organize his teammates and other units so that the team is organised on the pitch. Alfie is the captain for the under-18’s team for this season and he is also a part of the player leadership group of which he does and will continue to ensure that the team are maintaining high standards of professionalism both on and off the pitch."

Alfie: "At the start of my football journey I played for my local team Park Regis. I started this at under-5s to under-11s, being the captain throughout it all. I then moved on to play for Ebbsfleet United and progressed through until under-13s again being captain there as well. From there I moved to Sheppey United until under-14s being captain there. I then played for Gillingham from under-14s until under-16s. I progressed well and was playing for the under-18s at 15 years old constantly in every game. I also ended up training with the reserve team a few times which was good as well. I then got released from Gillingham and moved on to play for Chatham Town's reserve team. I then moved on to Southend which is where I am now and am enjoying it and want to push upwards and push myself playing against bigger, better and older players, which is what I have been doing in the past. Hopefully push onto the first team in the future. Overall playing at Southend is very enjoyable as it is full-time football, which is what I want to be doing and everyone is all good mates off the pitch but when on the pitch we are not mates but teammates which is what I think a team should be. All the coaches are perfect and help us push ourselves, which is what I want as a player. The education is perfect as it gets the qualifications I need if I get released or anything."
