Signing in late July 2026, Richards joined from Port Vale for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract with a club option for a third.

The midfielder graduated through the academy of his local team, West Bromwich Albion, making his senior debut against Arsenal in the EFL Cup.

Upon the expiry of his contract at the Baggies, Richards made the cross-Midlands switch to Aston Villa, before joining Stockport County on loan in January 2024. He made 11 appearances for the Hatters as they stormed to the League Two title, scoring in a 3-0 win over Forest Green Rovers.

Richards would then earn a second promotion from the fourth tier in his next loan spell, finding the net four times in 32 appearances for Port Vale. His performances for the Valiants prompted Darren Moore to secure his services on a permanent basis when his Aston Villa contract expired in the summer of 2025.

Another League Two loan spell followed in 2025/26, as Richards made 14 appearances for Walsall. He found the net twice in the EFL Trophy, and picked up an assist in a 3-1 win over Accrington Stanley.
