On 8 July 2024, centre-back Joe Gubbins signed for the Shrimpers on a two-year deal.

Released from Championship side Queens Park Rangers after four years with them, Gubbins previously featured in the National League with Aldershot and also had a stint on loan with the Blues in the 2021/22 season, appearing 10 times.

In the 2023/24 season, Gubbins featured 37 times in League Two for Accrington Stanley, helping the side comfortably avoid relegation and keep 10 clean sheets along the way.

Gubbins has since made more than 60 appearances for the Shrimpers, demonstrating his determination and willingness to put his body on the line to defend the penalty area as well as his considerable technical ability on the ball when playing out from the back.
