Debut: vs Gillingham, 06.08.2018

Southend United completed the signing of Jason Demetriou in July 2016 following the end of his deal with Walsall, and he is now comfortably the club’s longest-serving player.

Demetriou, a right-back by trade who also offers lots of attacking quality going forward, started his career at Leyton Orient before moving to Cypriot first division side AEK Larnaca in 2010.

After five years in Cyprus, which included a stint with Anorthosis Famagusta, Demetriou returned to English football with Walsall in 2015 before his move to Southend the following year.

He found a knack of scoring some important goals during the 2017/18 season, chipping in with eight in total after taking on penalty-taking duties.

Demetriou has since captained the club on occasions and has also shown his experience and versatility by slotting into central midfield, where he played early in his career, with ease.

In January 2024, he passed 250 appearances for Blues, scoring more than 20 goals. He also has 51 international caps for Cyprus to his name.
