Southend United are delighted to announce the loan signing of Kenny Clark.

Blues have agreed a deal with fellow National League side Dagenham & Redbridge to sign the 33-year-old defender on a deal until the end of this season.

The central defender began his career at Dagenham as a youth team player and following his release in 2006 he joined local side Thurrock, going on to become the captain in a four-year spell at Ship Lane.

After fighting off other clubs for his signature, Chelmsford snapped up the then 23-year-old in the summer of 2011. Just like his time at Thurrock, Kenny went on to captain the Clarets in a side that reached the play-offs.

After two seasons with Chelmsford, where he featured in more than 80 games, he signed for Dartford before making the switch to join Ebbsfleet United in July 2014. He went on to make over 200 appearances for the Fleet.

Clark re-signed for the Daggers in 2018 and since then has made 100 appearances at the Chigwell Construction Stadium as a reliable and dependable figure in the defence.

Blues Head Coach Kevin Maher said: "We’re delighted to bring Kenny in. He has got loads of experience at the level, good leadership qualities and with what we’ve lost in terms of Ralphy and Kacper [Lopata] we were very young at the back so needed someone with great knowledge. He fits that bill.

"He’s someone suited to playing in a three so that’s a possibility, he’s done that for Dagenham this season so we can look at that. He wouldn’t be adverse to it.

"You know exactly what he can bring to the team, and we can trust him straight away in terms of knowing the job, knowing the level and talking to others around him."

Clark will wear the number 22 shirt for the remainder of the season and is available for selection for the trip to Yeovil on Saturday.

Welcome, Kenny!
