Southend United are delighted to announce Tom Clifford has signed a new contract.
The left-back, who came through the youth ranks at Blues, has committed his future to the club by putting pen to paper on a two-year deal, which includes a club option for a further year.
Clifford has made 60 first team appearances in a Southend United shirt so far and is looking forward to making many more.
"I’m buzzing to get the contract done and to be back in pre-season training getting ready for the new season,” he told Blues TV.
"It was always going to happen at some point, there was just a few bits to sort out but it was always going to happen.
"It’s always special for an Academy player and I’m just happy to be back now."
After an injury disrupted start to last season, the 23-year-old is hoping he can be involved from the off this year in a successful campaign.
"Last year I was hit with a bit of a bad injury at the end of pre-season which hindered the start for me, touch wood I’ll come through without any injuries this year.
"The gaffer wants me to build on last season, become a better player and play more than I did last season.
"As for the team, some of the signings we’ve made are good players and we want to be up there in the table come the end of the season.
"I’ve made over 50 appearances and I’d like to think I can move past 100 for this club with this new deal which would be a great number."
Full interview available on Blues TV shortly.
Congratulations on the new deal, Tom.
