Southend United face Dagenham and Redbridge in the FA Trophy on Saturday hoping to make it three wins in a row in all competitions for the first time since October 2018.
We’ve taken a look at three players from Daryl McMahon’s side who will be looking to stop that from happening.
The first player who will be looking to dent Southend’s chances of a win is former Leyton Orient full-back, Sam Ling. The 25-year-old joined Dagenham in the summer and has so far scored two goals, both of which came against Southend. The full-back has never scored more than three goals in a season and will be hoping to match that record on Saturday afternoon. Ling has played in every game bar one for Daggers this season and so is expected to line up on the right flank.
The Colombian born forward joined Dagenham in 2018 from fellow National League side Boreham Wood and is in the best form of his career at the moment, averaging a goal every two games. With this, Balanta is Dagenham’s joint top goalscorer with eight so far. Having been given the captain’s armband in recent months, Balanta will be hoping to lead by example and fire Dagenham into the next round of the Trophy.
It’s not often we pick out all goal scorers in the three to watch, but with Dagenham being the top hitters in the league this season, it would seem silly not to. Midfielder Josh Walker is another who will be looking to continue his fine form on Saturday, having netted twice in the last two games. This has seen him hit eight goals in all competitions, including one against Truro City in the FA Trophy Third Round. The 24-year-old joined Daggers in the Summer and is closing in on a centenary of games in professional football.
