Southend United and its partners have teamed up to launch the ‘Goals for Carli’ campaign and would like to encourage as many fans as possible to sign up.

The Goals for Carli campaign will see Blues’ main partners make a sizable donation to the Carli Lansley Foundation for every goal scored at Roots Hall throughout the 2022/23 season.

The Carli Lansley Foundation was set up by Blues supporter Karl Lansley and his two young children Jessica (15) and Ethan (12) after tragically losing his wife Carli from Sudden Arrythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) at the age of just 36.

The aim of the foundation is to provide sufficient funds to cover the cost of holding free ECG screenings for young people aged 14-35 in the Southend area and will also be holding a free screening day at Roots Hall on Saturday 24th June 2023.

Karl Lansley, founder of the Foundation, said: "Ever since the formation of our charity in 2018, we have established strong links with the Football Club. Our first ever screening day in memory of Carli was held at Roots Hall in 2019, two of our patrons are Adam Barrett and Jason Demetriou, and the club have been supportive of numerous fundraising projects we've launched over the years.

"Carli and I first brought the kids to Roots Hall in 2015 when our daughter, Jess, was aged nine and our son, Ethan, was just five. We became season card holders almost instantly.

"This new fundraising initiative, instigated by the club's sponsors, will not only bring in donations to our charity but it will also raise huge awareness of our Foundation and will hopefully encourage more young people (aged 14-35) to get signed up for their free ECG screening.

"We thank the club's sponsors for choosing our charity to support and, like all Southend fans, the Lansley family are looking forward to what we all hope will be a hugely successful season!”

Gary Parker, Managing Director of MidexPRO, who will be leading the campaign on behalf of the club’s main partners, said: "As I sat chatting to other sponsors at a recent friendly at Roots Hall, I came up with the idea of all pledging an amount for each goal Southend score at home this season, we all quickly agreed this would be a great idea. Now that other sponsors have joined it, the club have suggested the goals for Carli campaign which we are delighted to support. It’s a great cause with a local feel to it so I would urge all supporters to join us and even if it’s a £1 a goal, every single pledge will help."

Commercial Executive Rylee Doe added: "When MidexPRO approached myself about supporting a local charity throughout the season, I thought it was a great idea which we as a club are proud to support.

"Having known of Karl for a while and the great work he and his children do to keep Carli’s memory alive, they felt like the perfect charity to receive our support, and one that our fans can get well behind.

"It’s amazing to work with so many of our partners to support the local community and is hopefully the first of a number of initiatives."

Other club partners who have signed up to the campaign are Gilbert & Rose, Solopress, Acoustics Agency, TGC Home Improvements, Swapsicle and Workplace Safety Solutions.

Blues supporters can join in by pledging to donate any amount of money per:

  • Goals Scored at Roots Hall
  • Goals in South Stand
  • Goals in North Bank
  • First Half Goals
  • Second Half Goals
  • Goals from Penalties
  • Goals from Free-kicks

Spencer Gilbert, Director of Gilbert & Rose, commented: "We are ecstatic to team up with Southend and other partners to raise funds for The Carli Lansley Foundation. We’ll be cheering on the Blues even more so now as we hopefully raise lots of funds and awareness for Karl’s aims."

Jarrod Gall, Director at TGC Home Improvements said: "What a fantastic campaign and cause. We are 100% behind ‘Goals for Carli’ and Karl’s plan to provide young people living in Southend with free ECGs via the Carli Lansley Foundation. We will certainly be cheering a little louder as each Southend goal hits the back of the net at Roots Hall this season."

David Gracie, Director of Indigo Governance, added: "We are delighted to support the fantastic work being done by The Carli Lansley Foundation to raise awareness and vital support in this area. Here’s hoping for high-scoring season!"

Tom Wardle, CEO of Swapsicle, stated: "Swapsicle are delighted to help support the Carli Lansley Foundation by donating for every goal scored at Roots Hall by the Blues! Supporting the local community is always in our interest and I hope our contribution helps to increase exposure."

We are also pleased to have Toomey Motor Group on board in this fantastic initiative!
