He admitted goals are something he wants to add more of.

"It feels really good to have scored," the 26-year-old said.

"I think my last header was a few years ago at Chelmsford City, and that wasn’t a good one!

"It was a fantastic cross and he [Jason Demetriou] made it easy for me. I don’t get many headers, so I’ll enjoy it!

"I had a chance in the first half, and I tried to volley it but the management told me at half time I should be heading them opportunities.

"Thankfully, I managed to get on the end of JD’s cross and luckily it went in.

"I want to score more; assists are something I’ve always done but scoring goals is a part of my game that I’m working on."

The header from Bridge meant Southend secured their second successive 1-0 victory against a side vying for promotion and Bridge, who struggled with a knock after Saturday’s game, was pleased with his team’s performance.

Bridge added: "It was a good performance and I think we played really well.

"We dominated the ball and created some good chances.

"There were times where we had to show a bit of fight and grit, but we did it really well and then earned the right to play

"Since I’ve come back from my knee injury, I’ve struggled a little bit getting my fitness up and that’s something I have to keep working on.

"It was good to get more minutes tonight."
