Stan Collymore has joined the Club as Senior Football Strategist!
Collymore scored 18 goals in 33 appearances for Blues between 1992-1993 before a club record fee received saw him join Nottingham Forest.
The former Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Leicester, Bradford and England striker will work closely with the Commercial, Media and Football Departments.
Tom Lawrence, CEO, said: "I am delighted that Stan has joined the Team.
"In addition to helping the Board with football strategy, Stan will be assisting with player recruitment and he will be working across the Media and Commercial Departments too.
"Stan will be a real asset to us, his knowledge and contacts are phenomenal and his drive and enthusiasm are infectious. I am looking forward to (continuing) to work with him.”
Stan added: "Southend was my happiest time as a player, so the ability to be able to come back and give something again is very exciting.
"As Senior Football Strategist I’ll be assisting Tom and the Board on football strategy and providing input on player recruitment. I’ll also assist with supporter engagement and I’ll use my 35 years of experience to help drive initiatives across the Academy, Trust and the ex Player’s Association.
"Kev, Darren and Benno are three very exciting coaches that we should all be proud to have. Men of the highest integrity. They will get this fantastic football club moving in the right direction, entertaining supporters on the pitch and making everyone associated with the club feel part of a very special football club.
"Lastly, I’d like to thank Ron, Tom and the Board of Directors for the opportunity - I can’t wait to get started!”
