Southend United can confirm that Zak Brunt’s red card in Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup fixture against Chesterfield has been overturned on appeal.

The midfielder will now be eligible for Blues’ upcoming games, starting with Woking this weekend.

The Sheffield United loanee was sent off in stoppage time of the game against the Spireites following an altercation with Calvin Miller, who was also dismissed by referee Scott Simpson.

The appeal against Brunt’s red card was reviewed by an independent regulatory commission on Tuesday at the Football Association and, following this process, the midfielder’s suspension has been rescinded and lifted with immediate effect.
