2021/22 NATIONAL LEAGUE OPPOSITION PREVIEW: BROMLEY, CHESTERFIELD & EASTLEIGH

A look at Blues’ 2021/22 opponents…

Ahead of the 2021/22 season, southendunited.co.uk will be taking a look at each of Blues’ Vanarama National League opponents.

Following Bromley and Chesterfield's defeats in the National League Play-Offs, we focus on the two clubs this time round along with Eastleigh.

Bromley

Manager 

Andy Woodman – The former Head of Goalkeeping at Arsenal was appointed the manager of the Ravens on 29th March 2021, and after guiding them to the Play-Offs on the final day of the season he was awarded with the May 2021 Manager of the Month award.

Bromley’s record transfer fee received was an undisclosed sum from Portsmouth for Reeco Hackett-Fairchild who featured on loan for Blues in the 2020/21 campaign. 

The Raven’s top goal scorer throughout their history is George Brown who scored over 570 goals for the club during a 23-year stay.

In the 1996/97 season, Chesterfield made it into the Semi-Finals of the FA Cup. 

They won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy during the 2011-12 season – beating Swindon Town 2-0 at Wembley. 

The Spireites’ record fee paid for a transfer is £750,000 when they signed Jason Lee from Watford in 1998. Blues fans may recognise that name as Jason featured for Southend during the 1993-94 campaign.
