Southend United head to Dartford on Saturday afternoon for their next pre-season friendly.
Phil Brown will put his team through another difficult test against the National League South side, managed by Steve King, who have beaten EFL sides Sutton United and AFC Wimbledon in pre-season, and also gone close against League One opposition in Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic, losing by the odd goal in both of those encounters.
Brown will be keeping a close over the mentality of his group when they head to Princes Park.
"We’re not going there thinking it will be a walkover, you never do where pre-season friendlies are concerned.
"I think the pre-season games left will hold their own challenges, without a shadow of a doubt.
"If you look at the four games in Dartford, Brentford, Ebbsfleet and Norwich City, you’re talking about two Premier League U23 teams which will be able to keep possession I would imagine, and then Dartford and Ebbsfleet who will give us a run for the ball.
"I’m looking at the mentality of the group more than the physicality or the technicality. I always look at the mentality of the players that look at the opposition, and if you think it’s going to be easy then you won’t be in my team.
"If you look at the opposition and think we’ve got to work hard and apply ourselves to win this game of football then you’ve got a good chance of starting on the 21st."
