O n Thursday afternoon Southend United manager Mark Molesley provided the latest team news ahead of weekend trip to Port Vale...
"It’s going to be a bit longer for Macca.
"He’s had a calf injury a couple of times in his career before so he knows what it takes to come back from that and how long he needs to heal.
"Unfortunately a week isn’t going to be long enough for him to get back playing, that might take another week or 10 days.”
"Brandon is definitely closer. He’s started to pick up his training, he joined in a large part of training today and was back with Stef working hard so we’re starting to get him back up to speed which is definitely a positive.
"Saturday will be too soon for him because he has been out quite a long spell now.
"He will need longer to build up his fitness.”
"Terrell is looking to hopefully train with the team tomorrow. That’s another a positive
"He’s pushed himself onto that next level today and the reports back from that have been good.
"We’re hoping to see him play some part in training tomorrow. Whether that’s enough to get involved on Saturday only tomorrow will tell us that.”
"He did well coming through the game [on Tuesday].
"He had a much-needed day's rest today, he's been in but we didn't have him out on the pitch, along with a couple of others who needed resting down and more work with the physios than out on the training pitch.
"We've had four heavy pitches in a row, three at home and Grimsby away before that, so we have to get the balance right of rest to work.
"We wish we could be out on the training pitch longer, but when you have such a heavy week and a few people feeling the affects of that we have to look after them and put them in the best place for Saturday."
"It’s good to have him back, he’s been huge for us.
"[He was] frustratingly missing on Tuesday night. I think he would have been a big player for us front-screening [Danny] Rowe.
"He was sorely missed on Tuesday [due to suspension], but at the same time the positive is he has fresher legs for Saturday.”
