Southend United are delighted to announce Greg Halford has signed a contract extension to keep him at Roots Hall until the end of the 20/21 season.
Halford joined in December and scored on his debut against Grimsby Town after coming on as a substitute.
He’s also shown his versatility to be able to play as a striker or in defence in the five appearances he’s made as he builds his match sharpness.
And the says there’s a lot more to come.
“I’m delighted to be staying and to know where I’m going to be playing my football for the next four months,” said Halford. “Hopefully I'll get many more games under my belt and help the team move up the table.
“I’m pleased with how it’s gone so far. I’ve wanted to play more minutes but obviously being out the length of time that I have been, the games that I’ve had I’ve done OK in. It’s still [about] building fitness.
“Barrow was my first start in over two years so I’m probably ahead of schedule in terms of starting games. In terms of performances I know there is still a lot more to come from me.
“I was always confident in the ability that I had, it was just whether or not I was able to translate that inside a month to be able to warrant being given another contract.
“I’m really pleased and thankful to the manager and coaching staff for getting me up to speed and putting the faith into me. Hopefully I can repay that over the next four or five months.”
Blues boss Mark Molesley commented: “It’s been great to have Greg around the group with his vast experience and undoubted quality with the career he’s had and the teams he’s played for.
“The situation we’re in, vast experience is always something you want. He’s very resourceful and can play in a number of positions so he offers us a lot on the pitch, but with his experience, off the pitch as well.
“The more he trains and the more minutes he gets on the pitch, the more he’ll find his match legs, so to speak, and we’re really pleased that he’s with us until the end of the season.”
