Southend United are delighted to announce the signing of Tyler Cordner on loan from AFC Bournemouth.
The centre back, who was on loan at Scunthorpe United in the first half of the campaign, has joined up with the squad today after completing a move until the end of the season.
Cordner signed his first professional contract at the Vitality Stadium at the end of the 2016/17 season.
This will be his fourth spell out on loan from his parent club, the first being at Havant & Waterlooville in the 2018/19 season where he played 34 times and scored four goals.
Cordner followed that with another move to the National League, this time with Ebbsfleet in the first half of last season.
At Scunthorpe this season the 22-year-old made 17 appearances scoring one goal before being recalled.
He said: "I’m delighted to sign, I’ve had league experience already at Scunthorpe United and I want to come here and get some more games under my belt.
"It moved quite quickly. I wasn’t actually planning on coming back from Scunthorpe, I was supposed to be staying there for the season, but Bournemouth recalled me. I’ve been back for three or four days now and I got a call from the loan manager on Sunday saying Southend are interested.
"Obviously I know the manager as well, so it was a no brainer for me and I’ve come straight up."
Cordner adds to the contingent of players and staff in the squad with Bournemouth connections, making the same journey to Essex as the one made by Kyle Taylor, Shaun Hobson as well as manager Mark Molesley last summer.
He said although that might help him settle, it wasn’t the only reason he wanted to join.
"Southend is a massive club and really they shouldn’t be in this league and I think the main thing is we stay up and then hopefully next season they push on to get back to where they should be.
“I think the main thing coming here is to hopefully play games.
"It helps having those people here to support me but it’s not going to change how I want to play and how I should come in.
"I didn’t know until last night that I was coming here so I haven’t spoken to any of the lads I know already. I know Kyle really well and have grown up with him through the system [at Bournemouth].
"Shaun joined a bit later but I’ve played in partnership with him a number of times so we know each other’s [game] in and out.
"I’m going to work hard to get in the team and if I do, I want to take my chance and hopefully we can push the club up the league."
Tyler’s arrival has been completed in time for him to be involved against Bradford City on Tuesday night, a game you can watch live on iFollow Blues.
He will wear the number six shirt and if you want to sponsor him for the remainder of the season contact commercial on 01702 304136 or email email@example.com.
We’ll bring reaction from Molesley on his latest acquisition later on today.
