This deadline day was certainly a unique one for a number of reasons. The management team had been working on their main target for a number of days leading into the final day of the transfer window and there were a number of complexities involved in the deal.
It has been well documented of our desire to add a striker to the squad. The club offered great security to its number one target, a contract that we, collectively, believed was too good to turn down.
The Chairman backed the management team throughout to support the player’s wishes.
There were a number of twists and turns as the 11pm deadline drew closer and we were confident we had done our all to secure our main target.
However, in football (especially on deadline day) many things can change last minute and unfortunately this potential signing ended up just being out of reach at the final hurdle.
We were still pleased to strengthen our squad in the window with Reeco Hackett-Fairchild, Tyler Cordner, Nathan Ferguson and Jacob Mellis joining while Kyle Taylor, Alan McCormack, Greg Halford, John White and James Olayinka all extended their stay with us until the end of the season.
Our squad is stronger from the window and we’ll continue to work hard to improve our fortunes.
