Southend United have signed goalkeeper Alex Bass from Portsmouth on an emergency seven-day loan after injury to number one Mark Oxley.
Scan results have revealed a groin injury for Oxley which rules him out of today's game.
Blues have, therefore, moved to draft in 22-year-old Bass who has progressed through the Pompey Academy.
He has featured in cup competitions only this season as the south-coast club’s number two to Craig MacGillivray, including the Papa John’s Trophy group game against Southend at Roots Hall in October.
Last season Bass, who has also had loan spells at Salisbury and Torquay in his career, made 25 appearances for the League One outfit, including in their play-off semi-finals against Oxford United.
In total the 6ft 3in stopper has made 36 appearances for Portsmouth.
Bass will wear the number 45 shirt during his time at Roots Hall and is available for selection against Salford City this afternoon.
