Southend United are pleased to confirm Chartered Physiotherapist Matt Barnaby’s appointment to the club’s the medical department.
Matt has good experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist and will oversee the other physios at the club in treating all Southend United players, as well as being a mentor for those already in the medical department.
“It’s fantastic and a great opportunity for me,” he said.
“I’ve got a lot of interest in professional sports, particularly football, so it’s great that I’ve got an opportunity to be able to apply the skills and experience that I have into this particular environment.
“I’ve not worked in the game before, that said I do treat a number of professional athletes at a private clinic I work at, whether it’s footballers, rugby players or any other sport. So I have experience of treating athletes at all levels, and not just professional athletes.
“I’ve been involved at the club for about three months now and it’s been great.”
Matt added: “I’ve come in from outside of the game, so I’ve come in with some new ideas and different ways to approach certain injuries with the rehabilitation side of things. It’s a learning curve for both myself and the players as well, and probably doing things that they might not have done before, purely because I’ve come from outside the profession.
“It’s all about making sure the players are coming back safely and in their peak condition, so hopefully I can help with that.”
