Brett Huxtable has been appointed referee for this weekend’s game against Crawley Town.
Blues fans may remember him from an eventful clash against Charlton Athletic in 2018 in which three red cards were shown in the 90th minute.
Mark Oxley and Michael Kightly were sent off along with Tarique Fosu following a late incident.
The Devonshire referee’s most recent Southend game was a 1-0 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon in March 2019.
This is Huxtable’s fifth season in the EFL and the game at The People’s Pension Stadium will be his first in Sky Bet League Two in the current campaign.
He will be assisted by Nicholas Cooper and Marc Wilson with Michael Chard the Fourth Official.
