Mark Molesley has confirmed that Lewis Gard will require surgery for a cruciate ligament injury.
The midfielder was stretchered off in the EFL Trophy game against Portsmouth last week.
And the scan results have shown that the injury is worse than first feared, ruling him the 21-year-old for the rest of the season.
"That was a real sad one for us and a tough one to take,” Molesley said.
"He’s going to require surgery unfortunately so he’s seen the surgeon and he’s booked in for it in the coming weeks.
"It’s a cruciate injury and he won’t see the rest of the season which is a tough one but knowing how Lewis is mentally and how well he did to come back from his previous injury, he’ll be back on the football pitch again.
"It’s frustrating for him and everyone for the short term but in the long term he’ll come back stronger I’m sure of it.”
