We are going back to the 1960’s for our next match day event arranged by the Southend United Ex-Players Association (SUEPA).

The club are delighted to be welcoming to Roots Hall for our match against Bristol Rovers on Saturday 7th March a number of former players who all played for us during the Sixties.

Our guests include Mike Beesley, Eddie Clayton, Peter Goy, Peter Hunt, Ken Jones and Derek Tharme. Over two spells, which saw him bag an impressive 49 goals in a Shrimpers shirt, Mike Beesley played with all of the others during his time with us.

The connections do not end there – Eddie and Derek were both at Spurs during the 1950’s, but it is perhaps Derek who will have the most emotional home-coming as it was on a Saturday in September 1963 that a bad knee injury ended his Football League playing career...and he has not been back since!

All of the former players will be introduced to the crowd shortly before kick-off, please be sure to give them a great Roots Hall welcome!
