Southend United are delighted to announce that Tom Clifford has signed a new one-year deal with an option of a further year at the club.
The left sided, dead-ball specialist signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2018, and on Boxing Day in the same year, Tom made his debut for Blues, coming on as a sub against Oxford United in a 1-0 victory.
A successful loan spell at Concord Rangers followed and after making his first appearance of the 19/20 season for Blues in a thrilling 2-1 victory against Lincoln City, Tom was ever present in the squad until the curtailment of the season.
Clifford’s eye-catching performances at left-back was certainly noticed by the fans with the 20-year-old picking up the Genting Casino Player of the Month award for February.
Tom spoke to the Southend Echo regarding his new contract “It’s been going on for a while now, so I’m pleased that it’s all done and sorted now.
“I was really starting to get a grip of the football, so this pandemic came at the wrong time I think, I was growing in confidence every game so I was gutted when it all came about.
“Next season hopefully I play as many games as possible and hopefully as a team we can do as well as we can to finish as high in the table as we can.
“I’ve been at the club for 10 years now so it’s a privilege to play for the first team because there’s times where you think it will never happen so it’s really pleasing.”
