Join NCS Summer 2020!

31 January 2020

Make this summer an unforgettable one by joining NCS!

The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a life-changing, government-backed youth programme run by Southend United Community & Educational Trust - open to all teenagers aged 15-17, to discover who they are and what they can do.

Over the last 10 years, more than 600,000 young people have benefitted from taking part in NCS.

Broken down into three phases, NCS is specifically designed to provide young people with all sorts of new experiences; as they spend time away trying exciting new activities, learning new skills and making new friends before returning to their communities to develop Social Action Projects.

Previous Social Action Projects have revolved around decorating a community youth centre and running a community fun day, as well as raising funds for local charities such as Southend Hospital Charity, Samaritans and Gold Geese.

Last year, 360 young people signed up to Southend United CET NCS adventure – our biggest tally yet!

THE SUMMER THAT TURNS ‘NO YOU CAN’T’ INTO ‘NO WE CAN’

What exactly will you be getting up to throughout the summer?

Week one:

In your first week, you’ll live away from home and nurture your adventurous side in the great outdoors. This first stage is special as you get the opportunity to meet lots of new people and learn new skills whilst having fun all at the same time.

Week two:

The second week is all about independence and confidence. You’ll enjoy another five days away from home with your new-found mates – at University of Essex’s Colchester Campus - cooking your meals for the week and picking up skills to set you up for life. There will be movie nights, sports games and a Come Dine With Me night during the evenings.

Week three:

Fuelled by your first two weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to use your voice and have a lasting impact on something you’re passionate about within Southend. Transform your community with your team, planning and delivering a part-time project that benefits your local area.

Week four:

Celebrate everything you’ve achieved on NCS at your graduation party – taking place at Palace Theatre in Southend - as you’ll showcase your Social Action Projects to family and friends and receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister.
