Saturday was a chance to pay our respects to former Blues captain Chris Barker following his sad passing on New Year’s Day.
We welcomed back past teammates and staff that Chris worked alongside during his three years at Southend for a pre-match tribute to our former captain, with flowers (provided by The Flower Hamper) and a canvas print (provided by Get It Printed) laid in the centre circle. There was a minute's applause in the 39th minute of the game.
The minute’s silence was impeccably observed from both Southend and Tranmere supporters, along with both sets of players and staff. We would like to thank everyone who attended the match for their help in giving Chris the send-off he deserved in this.
Saturday’s programme was also dedicated to Chris, with 50p of each copy sold being donated to Mind Charity. We're delighted to announce that over £440 was raised from this initiative.
If you didn’t get your hands on a copy you can do so either at the next game (Lincoln City, 1 Feb), online or by calling 01702 304119 (postage surcharge included).
Take a look through some images sent back from the tribute that took place on Saturday.
