FROM THE GAFFER
Sol on coming up against an in-form Oxford side...
"We’re up against a very mobile team and they’re playing excellent football so it’s going to be a difficult game for us.
"We’ve got to put our best foot forward and go for it.
"We’ve got to defend right and then attack and put our chances away. We will create chances, we will cause them problems as long as we’re not scared of going for it in the right moments."
Sol on how he wants the team to play…
"In the last game we took far too long to get into gear. I said to the lads I don’t want that happening again.
"Yes, we’ve got to defend and be in good positions, but when we have the space and opportunity knocks, let’s go for it and have an end product.
"We took far too long to get going in the last game against Burton."
Sol on taking the handbrake off…
"We’re guilty of not putting our chances away.
"We’ve had key moments in games and we’ve not executed it properly or trusted ourselves.
"I want the players to be free on the pitch, without handbrakes on. The time for handbrakes have long gone.
"Defend right, attack right and try to play your best game.
"I was a little bit unhappy with the inhibition of them and holding themselves back. Just go for it now."
Oxford's form this season has won admirers of their boss Karl Robinson with an approach for the former Charlton and MK Dons boss from managerless Blackpool rejected this week. Robinson said that's not taken their eye off the ball:
"It hasn’t affected things at the training ground. The lads know me and have bought in to something we are trying to do here, things being done the right way. Perhaps it makes us more hungry because the only way we can all stay together is if we are successful.
"First of all we want to win on Saturday. People look at the table and think we are going to win just by turning up. No we are not. Southend are well coached, they have their personal pride and they are professionals so we know it is going to be hard again on Saturday. But we will face that challenge together and hopefully end the week on a high."
"He’s been out for a very long.
"He’s coming back in and getting used to the rigours of week in week out again. He’s got to adjust to that and it takes time."
"He’s still out. I don’t think he’s had his operation yet. I think there’s a slight delay but he should be having the operation soon."
Harry Phillips and John White…
"They’re both long term injuries."
"We need to see how he is on Friday. He’s a doubt.
"He needs to let his knee settle down.
"He’s played a lot of games in a short space of time."
