We’re delighted to confirm the signing of 20-year-old winger Louis Walsh.
Walsh, who has signed an 18-month contract, has previously played for Guiseley before earning moves to Barnsley and Nottingham Forest but departed the City Ground club in the summer.
He spent a bit of time training with Blues earlier in the season and the club have fought off interest from some clubs higher up the football pyramid to secure to signature.
And Blues boss Mark Molesley sees him as a great addition to his squad and one for the future as well as now.
“Earlier on in the season he come in for a month, so we had a good look at him and really liked him but weren’t in a position to be able to do something then,” said Molesley.
“He’s at a good age, got huge potential and has great attributes. We’re looking at him in a few positions, predominantly at the moment as a wide man but we feel that he can play up front too, and presents an exciting opportunity to the club to hopefully grow that potential into him being a real asset to the football club.”
Walsh himself said: “I’m delighted, it’s been a long time coming. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity of first team football and the chance to show what I can do on a bigger platform than before.
“It’s something that I’ve been pushing for, for a long time. I felt like I should have had opportunities elsewhere which didn’t come and that’s football.
“I’ve moved on and I’m delighted this has come up.”
Walsh is available to make his debut this afternoon against Colchester, and he added: “It’s something I’m looking forward to but it’s important to treat every game just like any other. But it would be nice to make my debut in the game [today].
“It’s the fittest I’ve been in a while. Last season I struggled for minutes at times, but this season I’ve been playing a lot. Six or seven games of 90 minutes under my belt now so I feel fit.”
Walsh will take the number 32 for the remainder of the season.
