Southend United secured their place in Round Two of the Football Manager Cup on Tuesday evening with a penalty shoot-out victory over Bradford City.
Ellis Gamon's virtual side went a goal behind in the first-half but Sam Mantom brought Blues back to level terms in the second 45, forcing extra-time.
Stephen Humphrys looked to have scored the winner when he rifled one in from the left-hand apex of the penalty box in the second period of extra-time, only for Clayton Donaldson to find the net with seconds remaining.
But the shoot-out went Southend's way after successful spot kicks from Mark Milligan, Humphrys, Michael Klass and Stephen McLaughlin and it ended 4-1 putting Blues in the last 32 of the competition.
The draw for the Round Two of the competition is on Sunday 26 April.
