“Journey to the Gills” – We’ve made it!

7 October 2019

Having left the centre circle of the Roots Hall pitch at 11pm on 4th October, after 13 hours of continuous walking and with blistered feet and very tired legs, we are pleased to confirm that the “Gills” walkers arrived safely at the Priestfield Stadium, Gillingham at virtually Noon the following day.

The Shrimpers Trust would like to firstly extend a massive thank you to the team of walkers who gave up their time and completed what was a physically challenging event.

In addition, we would like to thank our head line sponsor MSPFX and other main sponsors ECOM, SBC Leisure, Seetec, Outstanding Branding, Just Sport and T-SCAPE for their sponsorship.

Also a special thank you to Essex Fire & Rescue Service’s Orsett Fire Station for the kind hospitality given to the walkers on route, and Gravesend Council for opening their Facilities at Borough Market for the walkers to use when they arrived at Gravesend.

Thanks also to Gillingham Football Club who welcomed the “Journey to the Gills" team on arrival at Priestfield and looked after the team so well as they recovered after the trek!

We are delighted with the tremendous backing that this initiative has received from local businesses, the Southend United directors and players and importantly the Blues supporter community as a whole. We would like to thank everyone for their encouragement and generosity.

So far our JustGiving page has raised a total of just over £3,400. We also have a variety of off-line sponsorship and bucket collections to add to this, bringing the total raised currently to over £7,400. In addition with further pledges made but yet to be called in we expect to be able to add to this total. A further update on total monies raised will be provided shortly.

Finally, the Shrimpers Trust would like to take this opportunity to extend our grateful thanks to Southend United Football Club for the fantastic support they have given throughout the “Journey to the Gills” campaign.

Anyone still wishing to make a donation to the cause can do so by visiting the team’s JustGiving page by clicking here, where all monies raised will go direct to Little Havens.
