Southend United vs Brighton & Hove Albion...

Overview

Blues take a short break from League One to concentrate on the Leasing.Com Trophy this evening as Southend entertain Brighton & Hove Albion’s u21s at Roots Hall.

Having lost their opening group game to Leyton Orient, Blues know that a win over Brighton’s youngsters is a must if they are to harbour any hope of progressing to the next round.

The Seagulls began their Trophy campaign with a 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at the Cherry Red Records Stadium meaning that a win tonight would all but guarantee their passage through.

Form

Southend’s form in the league has been inconsistent with Blues picking up one win, a draw and two defeats in their last four outings.

Saturday’s defeat to Accrington at home left Southend without a win in any competition at Roots Hall so far this season, which is something they would like to put right this evening.

Brighton’s u18s have gotten off to a flyer this season, winning five and drawing one of their opening six games, while their u23s haven’t started as well but they did beat Spurs 4-1 on Friday.
