Tilson Aiming To Raise More Money For A "Fantastic Cause"

Former Blues player and manager Steve Tilson will be taking part in the Sid Broomfield Trophy tonight.

20 May 2019

Steve Tilson is just one of the former Blues players that will be returning to Roots Hall tonight to raise much needed funds for the Havens Hospices Charity...

And Tilson is looking to do all he can to help Havens Hospices.

On the game tonight and raising money for a great cause...

It’s a fantastic cause, I’ve raised quite a bit over the past few years playing in certain games and charity events.

I'm really looking forward to it, it will be fantastic to see a lot of the players I haven’t seen in a while like Lee Bradbury and Che Wilson and it will be great to see them and the rest of the boys.

On managing the team that won two promotions…

We had a fantastic team spirit and everyone got on, we had a mixture of leaders and a bit of creativity with Mark Gower and obviously Freddy (Eastwood) with his goals but I felt that the side back then worked really well and everyone got on with each other, from the staff and players right through to everyone who works in the ground.

I think that’s what got us promotion, everyone stuck together and there was a fantastic team spirit.

On the back to back promotions…

We got up from League Two to League One and then obviously we won League One and I think the jump into the Championship we probably just needed another two or three quality players because that was a huge jump for us.

Fair play to the lads they gave it their best but the nucleus from League Two to League One I think we kept that throughout those seasons.

On the battle with Colchester in the League One season…

I’d like to say yes, but I think as a squad you want to try and win the league whether it’s Colchester behind us or Cambridge, whoever it may be at the end of the day we just wanted to win the league.

I’d like to say Colchester pushed us on, but at the end of the day we wanted to win the league and we ended up doing that.
