On Friday 10th May Southend United Community & Educational Trust hosted their annual community games on the Roots Hall pitch where 14 schools battled it out to lift the trophy.
This is the Trust’s main Premier League Primary Stars tournament of the year and competitions range from football tournaments to reading challenges and club delivery includes support to improve teachers’ confidence in delivering PE. Premier League values underpin everything on offer, encouraging children to be ambitious, inspiring, connected and fair.
It all kicked off at 10am when all group games were underway and the goals soon followed with some spectacular strikes and some amazing assists and saves from the youngsters.
The semi-finals saw Bournemouth Park against Hadleigh and Darlinghurst against Greenways. These we two tough and very close games that saw some great goals but the victorious teams who made it to the final were Darlinghurst and Hadleigh.
There was nothing to separate these two teams with the game having to go to penalty shoot-out to decide a winner. A few expertly placed penalties saw Hadleigh crowned champions and they will now be invited to SUCET’s annual awards evening in June to showcase their award in front of a packed room.
Dan Hall, Participation Officer, said following the event: “For us this is the biggest tournament of the year and it's great for the schools to come and play on the pitch, especially after what happened on it the previous Saturday. We are in so many schools and to give them a chance to see the stadium is great.”
