5 March 2019

Who get's your vote for the Goal of the Month in February?

We've selected four of the best goals from February and the nominees for the Edward Carter Solutions GOTM award are as follows:

Stephen Humphrys vs Charlton Athletic - Saturday 9th February 2019

Humphrys found his shooting boots midway through the first-half in this encounter, after riding a couple of challenges the striker let fly from 25-yards out, seeing his effort take a wicked deflection off Naby Sarr and nestle in the top corner to give Blues the lead over the Addicks.

Simon Cox vs Portsmouth - Saturday 16th February 2019

Southend had been blown away by a clinical Portsmouth in the early exchanges of this game, but they gave themselves a glimmer of hope of salvaging something before half-time. Sam Hart did well to find space for a cross down the left-hand side, picking out Simon Cox in the box who looped the ball beyond Craig MacGillivray to reduce the deficit and make it 3-1.

Simon Cox vs Portsmouth - Saturday 16th February 2019

Cox, who was on a hat-trick, had the final say in a pulsating game of football as he scored a remarkable equaliser against promotion-chasing Portsmouth. Michael Turner picked out Cox in space, he played it into Timothee Dieng who played a wonderful reverse pass back to Cox who had the confidence and the quality to curl the ball past MacGillivray first-time to claim his first hat-trick for Blues and pull off a barely believable comeback, also deservedly earning the Man of the Match award.

Stephen Humphrys vs Accrington Stanley - Saturday 23rd February 2019

Humphrys opened the scoring once again away from home. A long ball forward from Bishop was inexplicably left by defender Ben Richards-Everton, thinking his goalkeeper Jonny Maxted would come to claim the ball, only for Humphrys to nip in ahead of the Stanley custodian and head the ball into the empty net to give Blues the lead.

In scoring the goal though, Humphrys collided heavily with Maxted and needed lengthy treatment and suffered a broken nose and a fractured cheek and eye socket.
