Team News: Blackpool (A)

7 March 2019

Blues could welcome Jason Demetriou back from the treatment table this weekend.

The Cypriot international has been sidelined since November with a knee injury.

But Chris Powell is hopeful that he will be able to include the right-back in his squad for he game against Blackpool.

Here’s the team news for Saturday’s game…

On Demetriou, Kiernan and Lennon…

Jason Demetriou has trained and I’m hoping he can be in the 18 but he hasn’t played for three months.

We’re a stronger team and squad with him in it, because of his attitude and experience.

Rob Kiernan and Harry Lennon have trained again but they’re lacking minutes.

But it’s a little bit of needs must at the moment.

I can’t keep waiting for them, the only issue with that is will they last 90 minutes.

That’s the issue when you’re putting in players who have been out a long time.

It’s a heavy pitch at Blackpool and it’s not only the physical aspect, but the mental aspect.

It’s never easy but it’s needs must at the minute.

I’ve been asking young players to do their best which they have done but they’re learning on the job and going through experiences that, most of the time, you wouldn’t go through as an 18 or 19-year-old.

You’ve got to get as many experienced players on the pitch, especially in this situation, as you can.

We’ve got to be mindful that we’ve got three games this week.

On John White…

John White is suffering from a virus.

We lost Sam Hart to that on Monday but he’s trained. John is away from the boys and he won’t be ready, whether he is for Tuesday we’ll have to wait and see.

We have enough issues as it is so we’ve kept him away as we don’t want to sweeping through from the group.

On Stephen Humphrys…

Stephen Humphrys will have an operation next week. It was delayed due to the complexity of the fracture and the injuries.

It’s a serious injury, not only broken nose and cheekbone but it’s the eye-socket and the fracture is close to the eye so it’s mightily important that we get that right.

He’ll have the operation some time next week and he’ll be out for a number of weeks that’s for certain.
