This week at Southend United

14 June 2019

The first summer signing walked through the doors at Roots Hall this week.

24-year-old striker Brandon Goodship arrived on Monday from Weymouth after a terrific season at the Evo-Stik Southern League champions.

Goodship scored a phenomenal 77 goals in two years at Bob Lucas Stadium, winning two league golden boots, the Terras’ Player of the Season, the National Game Awards Step 3/4 Player of the Season and a call-up to the England C squad.

Blues boss Kevin Bond spoke highly of his new signing, saying: "It's a big step up from where he’s been playing the last couple of years but he has the ability and the attitude, so with the right approach it’s not a jump that is insurmountable.”

Nathan Bishop made his England U20s debut on Tuesday night as the Young Lions ended the Maurice Revello Tournament with a convincing 4-0 win over Guatemala. Read what Bishop said about the achievement here.

It was announced that the U23 side will face Maidstone United in pre-season, and the latest 2019/20 Season Card sales update revealed sales have surpassed 3,000.

Following an approach from West Ham United, it was announced that Kevin Keen resigned from his post as Assistant Manager to take up the vacant Under-18s Lead Coach at the Hammers.

There was another challenging quiz, this time about first summer signings, and two more pre-season friendlies were announced on Friday.

A reminder that Sunday 16th June is the deadline for season card renewals and that Monday 17th June sees the start of the swap period.
