Southend United manager Kevin Bond felt it was a ‘good exercise’ for his players against Reading this afternoon.
Blues started their pre-season schedule with a 2-0 defeat against the Royals in a behind closed doors friendly.
Goals in each half saw the hosts run out eventual winners but Bond was happy with what he saw from his side in the first of their seven outings in preparation for the new campaign.
“It was a good exercise and it was a good first game for us to have,” said Bond.
“Everyone who has been training with us got 45 minutes and it was their first taste of a match as we get ready for the new season.
“It was a warm day but we learnt one or two things and everyone who played came through the game OK.
“They all got 45 minutes and I’m happy with how it went.”
