Mark Milligan is looking forward to stepping out at Roots Hall for the first time on Wednesday night against Millwall.
The summer signing is yet to feature at his new home but will get the chance tomorrow when the Championship side visit (7.30pm KO)
Ahead of Blues' sixth pre-season outing, Milligan feels this one will be their most important test yet.
On having two pre-season games left…
Pre-season is always a little bit tough. The friendlies and things you do, your body is always under stress and we’re trying to take in a lot of information as well with the way we want to play.
It’s been good so far obviously getting a lot of work done on the training pitch which is most important.
The gaffer’s trying to change quite a bit from the way the team was playing last year and while that takes time the only way you can do that is now.
On his fitness after five games…
We’ve been working very hard and the season does creep up very quickly. Ultimately that’s the goal for the first game, to be in the best possible condition.
These last two games this week are very important for us, I think there’s a lot of things that we need to implement.
It’s not so much about the running anymore. We’re all at the stage now where we can start implementing the football lessons that we’ve been learning in the last few weeks.
On if this our toughest test of pre-season so far…
It’s a big test for us but it’s nice for us to be back at home and get a feel for our ground again leading into the season. We need a good solid run out and while it’s not the be all and end all, it will be a decent indication of where we're at, at the minute.
On playing in the predicted hot conditions…
I don’t mind the weather, obviously it’s not preferable, but it’s just something else that you don’t have any control over. We just need to focus on the things that we’ve been doing and the things we do have control over and I think that’s going to be important for us all year.
On his first taste of playing at Roots Hall…
It’s not so much nerves, more excitement. Joining a new team you want to play at the ground and hopefully we get some people out tomorrow night.
I know it’s still early on and the season hasn’t started yet, but I think it’s important for the boys to know that everyone’s behind us and we will be working hard and that doesn’t change now just because it’s pre-season.
We will be wanting a good positive result to take into the season.
