We are delighted to announce defender John White has agreed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at Roots Hall for a sixth consecutive season.
There is also an option of another year beyond the 2019/20 campaign.
The 32-year-old has been at Blues since signing permanently in 2013 and has now made over 220 appearances.
White featured 41 times during the 2018/19 campaign, starting 39 of them and scoring three goals including the first on the final day of the season against Sunderland.
The centre back, who also broke his arm in the final stages of that vital win, said he’s thrilled to have finally signed his deal.
"I’m delighted it’s all done now and I can concentrate on football again,” said White.
"It’s not ideal when things take as long as they have but I understand that’s the way it goes and I’m just looking forward to concentrating on my football and enjoying my time.
"Pretty much straight after that last game [against Sunderland] I spoke to the Chairman and made my intentions clear that I ideally would really like to stay here and extend my time because I love the place, I’m happy, my family are happy here and I just want to carry on and do some good things this season."
Having played vital roles in two of the club’s great achievements in recent history, getting promoted and then keeping the club in League One last season, White is determined for more success.
"Without a doubt,” he added. “I’ve been here a fair while now and there is so much more we can do.
"Obviously those two are the big ones that stand out, but you don’t have to limit it to those two moments because over the years there’s been some great ones personally and as a squad that will live long in my memory.
"But I’m here because I want to make more [memories], I want to be at a successful club and part of a successful team.”
On his aims and objectives for the for the upcoming campaign, White said: "For myself personally I’m looking to play as many games as I can.
"There’s going to be a lot of strength in the squad and there’s a chance I might not play every game but I want to be in and around it as much as I can, contributing to the team and helping where possible.”
