Ahead of tonight's Checkatrade Trophy Round Three clash, Chris Powell provides the latest on Mark Oxley, Harry Lennon, Jason Demetriou and Rob Kiernan's injuries.
It’s slow. I thought he would be back sooner, but he’s had some consultation with a specialist and it’s a bit slower than we thought it would be.
There’s no rush. I’ve got two young goalkeepers but both capable. If and when Mark is back I want him fit and raring to go and get his shirt back because he knows he’s got not only one but two lads that have played at first team level who are very capable.
Harry Lennon and Jason Demetriou…
Harry Lennon was out on the grass yesterday for the first time. I always love that because then you see them and they see us, and that’s another incentive for them instead of being in the gym.
He’s running outside, not at full pelt yet, that would be at 50 or 60 per cent. Jason isn’t outside yet but will be we believe at the end of this week. That would be great.
Finally, I’m hopeful of getting two players back in the fold towards the end of the month which would be like two new signings, especially Harry because he hasn’t played. The fans haven’t seen anywhere near what he’s capable of.
JD is an important part of how we play and attack, as well as defending. But Elvis has been great and has learnt a lot.
He’s running at full pelt, he’s doing sprint work, I’ve seen him heading, I’ve seen him passing, volleying, I’ve seen him do a lot of work. Not with us yet, but I would say we’ll be seeing him before the end of the month with us, as long as he continues the way that he has.
He’s very close to joining in. What you do is make them join in with the warm-ups and the early ball work, non contact, and he’s literally 10-14 days away from that.
