"The dressing room was buzzing, the music was bouncing and everyone was delighted." - Humphrys on the Bradford win

21 January 2019

Blues' latest signing Stephen Humphrys was the man of the hour on Saturday, bagging a brace in his debut match...

The young forward couldn't have started his Southend career any better and the number 39 is delighted to have kicked off his time with the club with two wonderful goals.

On his debut…

“I’m delighted. As a striker the thing you want to do apart from work hard for the team is to get a goal and having done that on my debut, I’m absolutely delighted.

“The lads welcomed me straight away and I think me and Coxy seemed to understand each other on the pitch. He got an assist for one of my goals, so I’m delighted that it clicked straight away.”

On if it could’ve been better…

“Well, maybe a hat-trick on my debut might’ve been a little bit better. The gaffer said he wants to keep me fit and it’s my first league game in a while, my first start. It’s not all about getting a hat-trick, it’s about the fact that if I get injured then I’m no use to the team. Credit to all the lads as well because they were fantastic all round.”

On getting subbed off…

“No, I wasn’t annoyed about coming off. It would be selfish to be annoyed. I would’ve taken one goal or just a 1-0 win. Like I say, it’s more about the team but on a personal note it’s nice to score the goals and I’m just delighted that we got the win.”

On the feeling in the dressing room…

“The dressing room was buzzing, the music was bouncing and everyone was delighted. I haven’t been here for all those games where we haven’t done too well but at the end of the day, I’m very happy with that and the lads are as well.”

On whether the play-offs is possible…

“I don’t think it’s too late to push for play-offs. We should be pushing for play-offs and if we keep playing like we did today, and if we can pick up a few more 4-0 wins then we won’t be doing too bad!”
