History Books: Blues vs Hatters

24 January 2019

Let’s open the archives and look at the history between Southend and Luton...

We have faced Luton a total of 69 times with Southend winning 22 of those matches, drawing 15 and losing 32 games, meaning the Hatters have come out better in this fixture throughout the years.

The two sides have met in two cup competitions, one being the FA Cup and the other the Checkatrade Trophy, Blues are undefeated against Luton in the CT competition (P2 W2).

Southend are currently on a three-game unbeaten run when facing Luton at home, with the last defeat to the Hatters at Roots Hall being back in the 2006/07 season.

The first meeting between the two sides took place on Saturday 12th February 1921, the game took place at the Kursaal and ended in a 1-1 draw.

The biggest #SOULUT win record was a 5-0 Southend win that was played on Saturday 19th January 1929.

Quite a few Blues players have gone on to play for Luton or played for them before joining Southend and below are just a few of the names that have played for both sides.
