A message from The Blue Voice ahead of Saturday's game against Barnsley in Sky Bet League One...
Following on from a frustrating draw on Saturday against Accrington, the Blues are looking to bounce back in style as Sky Sports roll back into town for the game against Barnsley on Saturday.
I think, as fans, we can all agree that Roots Hall of late hasn’t been the loudest it can be. Granted, the atmosphere at the end of the Gillingham and Portsmouth games especially were good, but we know we can do better, and the fans in the West stand are keen to change this ahead of our fixture on Saturday.
We want to see every single fan in and around the singing section of the ground (and beyond!) getting behind the team on Saturday. Looking at some of our recent away games such as Charlton, Portsmouth, Oxford, Sunderland, and Coventry (to name but a few), the atmosphere and support from Southend fans has been second to none, and being backed by a group of loyal supporters who will sing for 90 minutes really does help those who pull on the famous blue jersey of Southend United.
That is why we, as supporters, would love to bring that atmosphere back to Roots Hall. Against Charlton, our support helped push the team on when we only had 10 men on the pitch. Against Portsmouth our support helped inspire a very impressive comeback from 3-0 down with a hat trick from Simon Cox and now we need that support once again. Roots Hall used to be a very difficult place for teams to come and play, but nowadays, the atmosphere is nowhere near what it used to be like, and on Saturday, we are keen to change this.
Therefore, we ask everyone attending the match to bring their voices and join us as, together, we make an atmosphere that we can be proud of. Win, draw, lose, let’s get behind the Blues.
Everyone involved with The Blue Voice (West Stand, Block W)
