On Saturday we are looking forward to the visit of Drewe Broughton who is back at Roots Hall in another former Shrimper’s visit arranged by the Southend United Ex-Players Association (SUEPA)...

Drewe is a footballer with a story to tell – so he has written a book! “And Then What..?” is a frank account of Drewe's playing days over 17 years with 22 clubs. But it also offers a fascinating, topical insight into his current work today helping to mentor professionals through the high and lows of the game. As a former England youngster tipped for the top, Drewe, now aged 40, admits his career was dogged and undermined by soul searching and self-doubt.

Drewe joined us from Kidderminster Harriers during June 2003 and went on to make 55 appearances in a Shrimpers shirt scoring seven times and playing a memorable part in our first LDV cup run. Who can forget Drewe’s celebratory run along the West Stand perimeter after he had scored the goal against Colchester that allowed us to make it to our first ever national cup final?

Drewe’s book is receiving some great reviews – “Highly recommended, a brutally honest account of Drewe’s life” and “A truly inspiring book” are just some of the comments you will find on Amazon where you can buy the book in both paperback and Kindle format.

On Saturday Drewe will be in the club shop from approximately 1.00pm until 2.30pm selling copies of his book and has kindly agreed on the day to discount the price from the normal retail value.

After the match, Drewe is expected to be in the Legends Lounge, and will, of course, be happy to sign his book and be available for pictures for any fans who are in the lounge.
