Chris Powell is asking his squad to ‘change the narrative’ when they come up against one of the top six sides.
Blues have struggled when facing sides at the top end of the table this season.
Powell alluded to it in his pre-match press conference but said he wants this weekend’s clash to buck that unwelcome trend.
“We have everything to gain,” said Powell. “We’re coming up against a side which are much fancied but haven’t got he results they would like recently.
“In front of the Sky cameras anything can happen and we know the atmosphere will be good, that’s for certain, so we need to go out there and do our best to put it in our favour.
“I know Kenny and he knows what the game is about and his squad certainly do. He’s got some good options. He’s fashioned a squad that are obviously trying to be in the top two, that’s their aim.
"We’ve got to worry about ourselves. We know how tough it has been.
“I think we‘ve got to do our best to change the narrative; change the story.
“When we’ve played the stronger sides it’s been hard for us, and it’s made harder by the lack of options.
“But the players are good enough and they have to believe they’re good enough.
“They don’t need much motivation to be up for a game against Portsmouth at home and we have to be in the game.
“We have to draw on a lot of energy. It’s tough in three game weeks, an early kick-off as well, but we need to be ready for it. Let’s go for it.”
