Chris Powell has given the latest update on Stephen Humphrys who was substituted following the collision at Accrington Stanley last weekend.
Powell also revealed Jason Demetriou and Mark Oxley are doing light work.
It was a real brave effort to put us ahead but sadly he’s suffered a horrendous injury; well injuries.
He broke his nose, his cheekbone and a slight fracture of his eye socket, and concussion obviously.
We’re grateful for Ben [Clarkson] and our medical staff and also the Accrington medical staff for getting him sorted out as soon as they did.
He’s travelled down south now and he’s seeing a consultant today with regards to moving forward but he will have an operation.
The extent to it we don’t know as yet, and sadly the worst-case scenario is he could be out for a number of weeks.
I don’t think it’s as simple as a couple of weeks as we initially thought.
On the other team news for Barnsley…
Dru [Yearwood] played in a game last week, not this week though because we wanted him fresh.
Luke Hyam, Harry Bunn and Rob Kiernan got some more minutes. Sadly Harry Lennon was at a funeral [on Tuesday] but he was ill so he wouldn’t have been fit to train or play anyway.
John White isn’t ready for the group as yet, he’s doing some light training.
But equally Jason Demetriou and Mark Oxley are doing some light training and we’re hoping Jason will be able to join in on Saturday, if not Monday.
But with losing Stephen Humphrys I might have to put Jason up front the way it’s going!
But no, I’ve got some young talents which will have to step up with regards to scoring and creating goals to win us games.
On Michael Kightly…
Michael Kightly trained fully on Tuesday and today so he’s available as well.
