Shrimpers Trust Supports Local Homeless Charity – HARP

5 December 2019

The UK remains in the midst of a homelessness crisis as increasing numbers of people are either living on the streets, are sofa surfing and having to stay with family/friends or are living in squats and other insecure accommodation.

At this time of year as we prepare for the festive season the Shrimpers Trust are backing local homeless charity HARP and are asking for the whole Blues community to join them.

HARP is a Southend based charity who focus on helping local people overcome homelessness for good. They provide essential services and long term solutions to support people in taking steps to overcome homelessness. HARP’s work includes providing housing to people that might otherwise be sleeping on the streets or in other unsuitable places. All clients will have an action plan to help them manage and overcome the issues that might be surrounding their homelessness. Services includes access to meals, clothing, health advice, counselling and peer support.

At the point that a client is ready to live alone HARP will provide the necessary advice and support to enable them to make a successful transition.

At the home game vs Rotherham on Saturday 14th December the Shrimpers Trust are asking that fans donate non-perishable items, that can be passed on to HARP to support their clients.

So why not add something to your shopping list and support the campaign! Listed below are examples of the items which we are looking for in particular.

  • Tins & packets of non-perishable food including
  • Soup. Pasta & rice.
  • Tinned meat and tinned vegetables Tinned fruit. Biscuits.
  • Sweets & chocolate including selection boxes

*When donating items supporters are asked to ensure that these do not contain any alcohol.

Supporters are asked to bring their items so these can be collected before the game on the 14th. So as to make it as easy as possible for you there will be a number of collection stations available around the ground:

Main Entrance: By the side of the Ticket Office/Club Shop

East Stand: At the top of the steps leading down from the car park to the Shrimpers Bar.

West Stand: By the side of the West Stand Ticket Office.

Please note that in addition if you are visiting the Shrimpers Bar before the game you will be able to drop any items off there.

Our collection stations will be live before the game from 1pm, with supporters asked if possible to donate their items before 2.45pm so as to help with the co-ordination of items to storage.

Alternatively if you would prefer to make a small cash donation to help HARP with the good work they do in the area, the Trust will have collection buckets available at each of the stations.

If you can’t make it to the game on the 14th but would like to support the initiative, items can be brought to the Club Ticket Office from Monday 9th December onwards. The Trust would like to thank Southend United and especially the Ticket Office team for their help here.

Supporters wishing to make a donation direct to HARP can do so by following the link to their website here.

The Trust is hoping that all Southend United supporters will want to work together at this time to offer some help to the homeless and vulnerable in our local community. Any items or donations you can make no matter how small will be most welcome.

In anticipation thank you so much for your support.
