Southend United were soundly beaten by Lincoln City at Sincil Bank as The Imps inflicted a 4-0 defeat on Blues this afternoon.
Jason Shackell headed the home side in front just after the half-hour mark after getting on the end of a Tyler Walker free-kick to nod the ball over a stranded Nathan Bishop.
The Imps would then double their advantage before half-time after a lucky break in the Southend box allowed Harry Toffolo to get a first-time shot away and find the bottom corner.
Two minutes after the restart, Lincoln would all but have the three points wrapped up as Joe Shaughnessy brought Walker down in the box, with the midfielder dispatching the spot-kick.
And Lincoln would round off an afternoon to forget for Blues as substitute Bruno Andrade fizzed a low shot through the legs of Bishop late on to secure a fourth straight win for the home side.
Southend's wait for their first league win of the season continues however, with Blues yet to pick up a point from their opening three league games for the first time since 1992.
Kevin Bond will have been bitterly disappointed to see his Southend side so comfortably beaten and unable to build on their midweek win over Stevenage in the Carabao Cup.
With momentum in mind, Bond chose to make just the one enforced change from Tuesday night, with the injured Harry Lennon being replaced by John White at the heart of the Southend defence.
Neither side could grab a firm foothold in the game early on but Southend did go close to opening the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes through Sam Mantom.
A Blues corner kick was swung into the near-post, eventually finding its way to the midfielder who took one touch to control before seeing his half-volley strike the outside of the post and go wide.
Lincoln, who had settled back into life in League One perfectly with two straight wins, then carved out two opportunities of their own in quick succession midway through the first-half.
Tyler Walker done well to find some space inside the penalty area before seeing his shot blocked, seconds before Harry Anderson fired a shot over to the relief of Nathan Bishop in the Blues goal.
Bishop though would soon be picking the ball out of the back of his net as the home side broke the deadlock after Stephen McLaughlin gave away a free-kick wide on the Lincoln right.
Jorge Grant floated the ball in towards the far post, finding the huge leap of Jason Shackell who looped his header over Bishop and into the bottom corner to put The Imps in front.
Southend immediately set about trying to breach a Lincoln backline which had yet to concede a goal this season and they went close with Simon Cox stinging the palms of Josh Vickers with a half-volley.
However, Blues would only go further behind before the interval after a defensive lapse from Southend allowed Harry Toffolo to fire in Lincoln’s second of the afternoon.
The visitors looked have quelled the danger as Lincoln surged into the penalty area, but a poor touch from Elvis Bwomono landed at the feet of Toffolo whose first-time strike found the net.
In an attempt to rescue Southend from a third straight league defeat, Kevin Bond sent Stephen Humphrys and Ethan Hamilton after the break, but things would quickly get worse for Bond’s side.
Two minutes after the restart, Walker got the wrong side of Joe Shaughnessy who made a desperate attempt to bring the Lincoln winger down, only to get nothing of the ball and give away a penalty.
Walker dusted himself off to take the spot-kick and after taking a few seconds to compose himself he drilled his effort right down the middle of the goal to put The Imps out of sight.
Southend’s task of salvaging anything from Sincil Bank looked to be a long shot but it didn’t stop the debutant Hamilton from having a dip at goal which had to be parried away by Vickers.
Lincoln though would keep pushing for a fourth and by far their biggest threat, Walker, would have one final stab at goal before being replaced, forcing Bishop into a save low to his right.
And the home side would break through one final time late on as Bruno Andrade got goal side and fired a strike low and hard between the legs of Bishop to wrap up a convincing win.
